Castello di Gargonza is a beautifully preserved medieval fortified village located in the hills of the province of Arezzo, overlooking the Val di Chiana between Arezzo and Siena.

The site dates back to at least the 12th century and occupied a strategic position that made it an important stronghold during the long conflicts between Florence, Siena, and local noble families. The castle is especially famous for its connection to Dante Alighieri, who is believed to have stayed there during his exile in the early 14th century.

Over the centuries, Gargonza evolved from a military fortress into a small agricultural community, while retaining its medieval tower, walls, stone houses, and narrow streets. After a period of decline, the village was carefully restored in the 1970s and transformed into a unique historic residence and hospitality destination.
