Castello di Piombino is the main historic fortress of Piombino, located on a promontory overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea in Tuscany.

Originally built by the Pisans in the 13th century as the “Cassero Pisano,” it was later strengthened and expanded to defend the city and its important maritime routes. The fortress underwent major modifications during the Renaissance. Leonardo da Vinci studied and contributed ideas for the city's defenses, and in the mid-16th century Cosimo I de’ Medici transformed the castle into a modern star-shaped fortress adapted for gunpowder warfare.

Today, the restored castle is open to visitors and houses a museum that presents the history of Piombino through archaeological finds, medieval artifacts, and exhibits about the fortress itself. Its walls and towers also offer impressive views of the coast, Elba Island, and the Tuscan Archipelago, making it one of the area's most important cultural landmarks.
