Castello di Tignano is a beautifully preserved medieval fortified village in the Chianti region of Tuscany, near Barberino Tavarnelle.

Its origins date back to around the 11th century, while the castle itself was developed in the 12th century by the Alberti family to help defend the area between the rival cities of Florence and Siena. The settlement retains its original circular layout, surrounded by stone walls and entered through a historic gateway. 

Inside, visitors can find a central square with an ancient well, a church, a defensive tower, and historic buildings such as the 14th-century Palazzo dei Begliuomini, all reflecting its medieval heritage. Today, Tignano is admired for its authentic atmosphere, panoramic views over vineyards and olive groves, and its remarkable state of preservation. The village is also known for hosting the annual Tignano Festival, which combines culture, music, and community life in a historic setting.
