Castello di Zena
Carpaneto Piacentino, Province of Piacenza, Italy, Italy
Castello di Zena is a historic castle located near Carpaneto Piacentino in the province of Piacenza.
Although its exact founding date is unknown, parts of the complex may date back to Roman times, and historical records mention the castle as early as 1216. Over the centuries it passed through the hands of several noble families, including the Confalonieri, Sforza, Sanvitale, Farnese, and Anviti families, reflecting the region’s complex political history.
The castle still preserves many features of a medieval fortress, including traces of a former drawbridge and its original square defensive layout. Careful restoration has revealed frescoes, decorative details, and an impressive fireplace bearing noble coats of arms. Today, the privately owned castle is valued for its historical character and architectural heritage and is occasionally opened for events, ceremonies, and guided visits.
