The Castle of ‘s Herenelderen, located in the Tongeren-Borgloon region of Belgium, is a historic water castle with origins dating back to at least the 13th century, with the earliest parts built in the 16th century in late Gothic style.

The castle has been modified and expanded over different periods, including Baroque additions in the late 17th century and a Louis XVI-style courtyard developed by the end of the 18th century. It was the residence of the lords of Elderen, passing through the Van Hamal family until the early 16th century and then to the Van Renesse van Elderen family. It consists of multiple floors and includes a farmhouse built in Baroque style, maintaining a blend of architectural elements from its various historic phases.

The castle’s setting along the Demer River adds to its characteristic charm, though it is privately owned and mostly viewed from the outside today. Its long history reflects the region’s nobility and changing architectural tastes over centuries.
