The château, originally the palace of the Prince-Bishops of Liège, became the headquarters of Cockerill’s engineering and steel manufacturing empire, which played a major role in the industrial revolution in Europe.

The company designed and produced steam engines, steelmaking equipment, locomotives, cannons, and other machinery, pioneering industrial innovation on the continent.
