Dvorac Maruševec
Croatia, Croatia
Dvorac Maruševec (Maruševec Castle) is a historic castle in Maruševec, Varaždin County, northern Croatia.
First mentioned in 1547, it is considered one of the most beautiful and oldest castles in the Hrvatsko Zagorje region, known for its distinctive towers, elegant architecture, and picturesque parkland setting. Over the centuries, the castle was owned by several noble families, including the Pongratz family, who significantly shaped its appearance.
Major renovations in the late 19th century gave the castle much of its current historicist look, while its landscaped gardens were redesigned by Swedish architect Carl Gustav Swensson. Today, Dvorac Maruševec is a protected cultural heritage site and remains in private ownership. Surrounded by forests, lawns, and historic gardens, it stands as an important symbol of Croatia’s aristocratic heritage and is admired for its architectural beauty and rich history.
