Esch-sur-Sûre Castle is a dramatic medieval castle ruin perched on a rocky spur above the town of Esch-sur-Sûre in northwestern Luxembourg.

Its origins date back to the 10th century, and its strategic position, protected on three sides by a bend in the Sûre River, made it an important stronghold for centuries. The castle was expanded over time with Gothic additions, defensive walls, watchtowers, and fortifications that also protected the village below. After gradually falling into decline, it was dismantled by the troops of Louis XIV in 1685, leaving the impressive ruins that remain today.

Today, Esch-sur-Sûre Castle is one of Luxembourg’s most picturesque historic sites. The restored ruins are open to visitors and offer stunning views over the river and surrounding countryside, making it a popular destination for those interested in history, architecture, and nature.
