Schoenfels Castle is a historic castle located in the village of Schoenfels, part of the municipality of Mersch in central Luxembourg.

Its origins date back to 1292, when a fortified residence was established beside the Mamer River, making it one of the castles in Luxembourg’s famous Valley of the Seven Castles. Over the centuries, the castle passed through several noble families and experienced periods of destruction and rebuilding. Its defenses were dismantled by French forces in 1683, and both the castle and the village were largely destroyed by fire in 1690. During the 19th century, the site was modified in a Neo-Gothic style, giving it much of its present appearance.

Today, Schoenfels Castle is owned by the Luxembourg state and is an important historical monument. The striking medieval keep remains its most recognizable feature, and restoration work has been undertaken to preserve the site and highlight its role in Luxembourg’s medieval heritage.
