Fort Klapperkop in Pretoria, South Africa, was constructed in 1898 as part of a series of strategic forts built by the South African Republic to defend Pretoria from potential invasions.

The fort is situated on a hill overlooking the city and was designed with a pentagonal shape, featuring stone walls, a moat, and a drawbridge. It was equipped with artillery, including the famous Long Tom gun, and served as a defensive stronghold during the Second Anglo-Boer War, although it was never directly attacked in battle.

After the British occupation of Pretoria in 1900, the fort was disarmed and later used for various military purposes. In the 20th century, it was restored and transformed into a military museum, displaying weaponry, military vehicles, and relics from past conflicts, and now serves as a heritage site and monument commemorating South Africa’s military history.
