Fuscaldo is a charming hilltop town in the Cosenza province of Calabria, southern Italy, known as the “stone village” (paese di pietra) for its historic center built from local stone.

First mentioned in 589 A.D., it has ancient origins possibly linked to Osci, Oenotrian, or Greek settlers, and was later inhabited by Romans, Lombards, and Byzantines. The town’s well-preserved medieval district features narrow alleys, ancient churches, palaces like Palazzo Valenza, squares, and around 100 stone portals and arches, earning it the nickname “Country of a Hundred Portals”.

Located between the Tyrrhenian Sea and the coastal mountains, Fuscaldo has about 8,300 residents and offers easy access to Marina di Fuscaldo on the Cedri Riviera, which has roughly 6 kilometers of beach with hotels, resorts, and restaurants just 4 kilometers from the historic center. Visitors can reach it by train from nearby towns like Diamante, Paola, and Scalea, making it an appealing destination that combines historic architecture with coastal relaxation.
