Green Bazaar, also known as Zelyony Bazaar, is a historic public market located in the center of Almaty, Kazakhstan, at the intersection of Zenkov and Jibek Joly streets. Established in 1875 originally as a guest yard for traveling merchants and caravans, it has long been a vital trading hub in the city.

The market was initially constructed as two wooden pavilions and rebuilt several times, especially after a major earthquake in 1887 that destroyed much of the area. In the 1920s, it was renamed the Central Farm Market and became known commonly as the Green Bazaar due to the abundance of fresh produce and vibrant green vegetables sold there.

The market evolved significantly in the 1970s with the construction of a modern covered building designed by architect Mark Pavlov, which features multiple levels including a large main pavilion and summer market.

Today, the Green Bazaar offers a wide variety of goods such as spices, fresh fruits and vegetables, prepared foods, textiles, furniture, and traditional Kazakh products, serving both locals and tourists as a lively center of commerce and culture. It remains a beloved symbol of Almaty’s rich trading history and multicultural heritage.
