Gropparello Castle is a remarkably well-preserved medieval fortress perched on a rocky outcrop above the Vezzeno Gorge in the hills of Piacenza, Emilia-Romagna.

Its origins date back to the late 8th century, when it was built on the site of an earlier Roman fortification, and it later became an important stronghold during the conflicts between the Guelphs and Ghibellines. Over the centuries, the castle passed through the hands of several noble families and became famous for local legends, including the story of the ghost of Rosania Fulgosio, said to haunt the fortress.

Today, surrounded by woodland and dramatic scenery, Gropparello Castle is one of the most iconic castles in northern Italy, known for its medieval architecture, guided historical tours, and family-friendly attractions such as its fairy-tale themed park.
