The Hantam National Botanical Garden, established in 2007 near Nieuwoudtville in South Africa’s Northern Cape province, is the newest of the country’s national botanical gardens and the only one in that region.

It spans over 6,000 hectares on the Bokkeveld Plateau, incorporating the historic Glenlyon farm as its core area. The garden specializes in conserving the unique region’s renosterveld vegetation, which includes a rich diversity of wildflowers, succulents, and grasses, many of which are rare and endemic to the area.

Each year from August to October, the garden showcases spectacular displays of colorful bulb flowers, attracting numerous visitors. It promotes conservation, biodiversity research, and environmental education while operating as a nature reserve where restoration and rewilding processes are ongoing to preserve the natural habitats.

The Hantam National Botanical Garden offers a blend of scientific value and natural beauty, making it a treasured botanical and ecological site in South Africa.
