Hreljin Castle is a medieval fortress overlooking the village of Hreljin and Bakar Bay in western Croatia.

First mentioned in 1225, it was an important stronghold of the powerful Frankopan family and later the Zrinski family, serving as a key center for trade, defense, and administration in the Vinodol region. The castle was one of the signatories of the historic Vinodol Codex in 1288, one of the oldest legal documents in the Slavic world.

During the Middle Ages, the fortified town played a significant role in controlling routes between the Adriatic coast and the Croatian interior. Today, Hreljin Castle survives as a picturesque ruin featuring remnants of defensive walls, towers, and the bell tower of St. George’s Church. Perched high above the surrounding landscape, it offers beautiful views and provides visitors with a glimpse into Croatia’s medieval past.
