Kasteel Sipernau
Dilsen-Stokkem, Belgium
Kasteel Sipernau is a historic castle located in Elen, part of Dilsen-Stokkem in Belgium's Limburg province. The estate dates back to the Merovingian period around the 8th century and was first mentioned as a property in 732.
The castle was connected to various noble families over the centuries, including the van Mopertingen family in the 14th century, and later the van der Marck family who rebuilt it in the 18th century in an early English neogothic style. The castle is notable for having a symmetrical front and back facade. In the 19th century, it was expanded with an additional floor and a tower. It features red-painted brick, distinctive towers, and Gothic-inspired architectural elements.
The estate includes service buildings, a farm, gardens, and is surrounded by a moat. Since 2005, Kasteel Sipernau along with its associated buildings and farm has been legally protected as a cultural heritage monument.
