Kaštel Drivenik
Drivenik, Croatia, Croatia
Kaštel Drivenik is a well-preserved medieval fortress located above the village of Drivenik in Croatia’s Vinodol region.
Dating back to the 13th century, it was one of the important strongholds controlled by the powerful Frankopan family and played a key role in monitoring and defending routes through the valley. The castle was one of the settlements whose representatives signed the historic Vinodol Code in 1288, one of the oldest legal documents in this part of Europe.
Over time, the fortress was expanded with defensive walls and round towers, giving it much of its present appearance. Today, Kaštel Drivenik is considered one of the most attractive and best-preserved castles in Vinodol. Surrounded by historic churches and overlooking Tribalj Lake and the surrounding countryside, it offers visitors a fascinating glimpse into Croatia’s medieval heritage and impressive panoramic views.
