Kaštilac is a picturesque 16th century sea fortress located in Kaštel Gomilica, part of the town of Kaštela on Croatia’s central Dalmatian coast, between Split and Trogir.

It was built by Benedictine nuns between the 1520s and 1545 on a small rocky islet to protect local people and property from Ottoman raids. The fortress is connected to the mainland by a distinctive stone bridge and is known for its fortified tower, limestone walls, and charming waterfront setting. Unlike many historic castles, Kaštilac evolved into a living residential area, and families still reside within its walls today.

The site is considered one of the most recognizable landmarks of the Kaštela region and offers a blend of medieval history, coastal scenery, and authentic local atmosphere. In recent years, Kaštilac has gained international attention as a filming location for the HBO series Game of Thrones, where it represented parts of the Free City of Braavos.
