Le Domaine de la Falize
La Bruyere, Belgium, Belgium
Le Domaine de la Falize is a large agricultural and wine estate in the hamlet of La Falize, in La Bruyère (Rhisnes), near Namur, Belgium.
It covers more than 200 hectares of woods and arable land and has been cultivated organically since 2000, with most of its farming now biodynamically certified (Demeter) and using regenerative, no‑till practices to protect soil biodiversity. The estate is centred on a 17th–18th‑century fortified farm or manor castle that originally grew from an 11th‑century watchtower, built on a rocky escarpment above the Hoyoux river and named “La Falize” from the French word for cliff.
Under the ownership of the de Mévius family, who acquired the castle in 1904, the site has been transformed into a modern, high‑quality producer of organic crops and wines, cultivating vegetables, asparagus, strawberries, cherries, old‑variety tomatoes and carrots, and growing about five hectares of vineyards with Chardonnay, a small amount of Savagnin and some Pinot Noir, all vinified in barrel with spontaneous fermentation and marketed as a Belgian biodynamic wine estate of international standing.
