Mahlamba Ndlopfu
Pretoria, South Africa, South Africa
Mahlamba Ndlopfu is the official residence and primary working home of the President of South Africa, located within the high‑security Bryntirion Estate in Pretoria.
Designed in a Cape Dutch style by architect Gerard (Gerrit) Moerdijk and completed in 1940 as “Libertas” for the Prime Minister, it was renamed Mahlamba Ndlopfu in 1995, a Xitsonga phrase meaning “new dawn,” symbolising the country’s democratic transition.
The residence includes formal reception rooms, private living quarters and extensive gardens— themselves declared a heritage site— and is used for presidential offices, diplomatic receptions and high‑level meetings, making it one of South Africa’s most important political and ceremonial spaces.
