The Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi in Turkistan is one of the most important historical and religious monuments in Kazakhstan.

Built between 1389 and 1405 on the orders of Timur (Tamerlane), it honors the revered Turkic Sufi poet and spiritual leader Khoja Ahmed Yasawi. The mausoleum is renowned for its grand Timurid architecture, featuring massive domes, intricate turquoise tilework, and innovative design techniques that later influenced other famous buildings across the Timurid Empire. It is considered one of the largest and best-preserved monuments from that period.

A major pilgrimage site for centuries, the mausoleum remains a powerful symbol of the cultural, spiritual, and historical heritage of Central Asia. In 2003, it became Kazakhstan’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognizing its outstanding architectural and cultural significance.
