McGregor
Cape Winelands, South Africa
McGregor is a small village in the mountains of the Western Cape, South Africa, founded in 1861 originally under the name Lady Grey. It was renamed McGregor in 1905 to honor Reverend Andrew McGregor, a Dutch Reformed Church minister who served the neighboring district for 40 years.
The village is known for its friendly, peaceful atmosphere, with charming thatch-roofed cottages, vineyards, apricot trees, and olive groves. It is part of the Western Cape wine route and lies at one end of the popular Boesmanskloof hiking trail to Greyton. McGregor also features a historic irrigation system where water channels run along the streets, allotting specific times for landowners to irrigate their properties.
The village hosts an annual Poetry in McGregor festival and attracts visitors for its blend of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and alternative lifestyle community.
