Motlatse River Canyon, also widely known as the Blyde River Canyon, is a spectacular natural landmark in Mpumalanga, South Africa. Stretching about 26 kilometers through the Drakensberg Escarpment, it is considered one of the largest canyons in the world and is especially famous for its lush subtropical vegetation, making it one of the planet’s largest “green canyons.” The canyon is renowned for its dramatic cliffs, panoramic viewpoints, waterfalls, and unique geological formations such as the Three Rondavels, Bourke’s Luck Potholes, and God’s Window. It forms part of the Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve, also known as the Motlatse Canyon Provincial Nature Reserve. A popular stop along the scenic Panorama Route, the canyon attracts visitors with its breathtaking scenery, hiking opportunities, boat cruises, and rich wildlife, making it one of South Africa’s most celebrated natural attractions.
