Museum of Castellina
Norcia, Italy, Italy
The Museum of Castellina, officially known as the Museo Civico e Diocesano La Castellina, is housed in a striking 16th-century fortified palace in the heart of Norcia, Umbria.
The building, known as La Castellina, was designed for Pope Julius III and later became a museum dedicated to preserving the artistic, historical, and religious heritage of the Norcia region. Its collections include medieval and Renaissance paintings, sculptures, religious artifacts, archaeological finds, and works of sacred art gathered from local churches and communities.
Among its highlights are important crucifixes, wooden sculptures, painted terracottas, and other pieces that reflect the area's rich cultural history. Although the museum was affected by the 2016 earthquakes, La Castellina remains one of Norcia’s most important landmarks and a symbol of the town’s artistic and historical legacy.
