Naples, or Napoli in Italian, is the capital of the Campania region and the third‑largest city in Italy, after Rome and Milan, sitting on the western coast along the Bay of Naples with the looming Mount Vesuvius in the background.

It is one of the oldest continuously inhabited urban areas in Europe, with roots stretching back to ancient Greek colonization and a layered history under Romans, Spanish, and later Italian rule, reflected in its dense, noisy, and highly atmospheric old center, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The city is famous for its passionate street life, pizza (which originated here), vibrant street markets, churches and palaces, and easy access to nearby attractions such as Pompeii, Herculaneum, the Amalfi Coast, and the islands of Capri and Ischia, making it a chaotic yet deeply rewarding gateway to southern Italy’s culture and coastline.
