Paderna Castle
Paderna, Italy, Italy
Paderna Castle is a historic fortified estate near Pontenure in the province of Piacenza, with origins dating back to the early Middle Ages and records mentioning it as early as the 9th century.
Initially linked to the Church and the Monastery of San Savino, it was rebuilt and expanded several times after medieval conflicts and eventually became the residence of the Marazzani family in the 15th century. Unlike many purely military fortresses, Paderna developed into a combination of castle, noble residence, and agricultural center.
It is known for its square layout, impressive entrance tower, Romanesque chapel, and one of the few surviving water-filled moats in the region. Today, the castle remains privately owned, operates as an organic farming estate, and is recognized as one of the best-preserved historic castles in the Piacenza countryside.
