The palace served as the residence of the Savoy royal family during their exile from Turin between 1799 and 1815.
Architecturally, it is notable for its long west façade with monumental pilasters, a grand portal, and a balcony with a historic inscription. Inside, the Council Hall is adorned with frescoes and stuccos by artists Domenico Bruschi and Angeletti from the late 19th century.
Today, it functions as the seat of the Metropolitan City of Cagliari and the Province of Southern Sardinia, retaining its importance as both a cultural and administrative center.
