Parco Della Cittadella
Parma, Italy, Italy
Parco della Cittadella is one of Parma’s most popular green spaces, created within a historic pentagonal fortress built in the late 16th century by Duke Alessandro Farnese.
Originally designed as a military citadel with walls, bastions, and moats, the site has been transformed into a public park while preserving much of its original defensive layout and its impressive monumental entrance. Today, the park offers wide tree-lined paths, open lawns, playgrounds, and sports facilities, making it a favorite place for walking, jogging, cycling, and family outings.
Its combination of historical architecture and green surroundings provides a peaceful escape just outside Parma’s historic center. Parco della Cittadella is valued both as a recreational area and as an important piece of Parma’s heritage, giving visitors the opportunity to enjoy nature while exploring the remains of one of the city’s most significant Renaissance-era fortifications.
