Playa El Zonte is a compact Pacific beach in El Salvador’s La Libertad department, forming the heart of the small surf town El Zonte about 40 kilometers from San Salvador.

It is famous as a world‑class right‑ and left‑handed beach‑break point, drawing surfers of many levels thanks to its consistent waves and long, workable rides, while the shoreline itself offers a relaxed, bohemian vibe with surf camps, small hotels, and casual beachfront eateries.

The beach is nicknamed “Bitcoin Beach” because it became one of the first places in El Salvador where businesses widely adopted bitcoin payments, helping inspire the country’s short‑lived Bitcoin Law. The area is relatively uncrowded compared with nearby El Tunco, and visitors enjoy a laid‑back, family‑friendly atmosphere by day with sunsets and a mellow nightlife scene, while still needing to respect strong currents and local safety advice.
