Quindío. Botanical Garden
Quindio, Colombia, Colombia
The Quindío Botanical Garden, also known as the Botanical Garden and Butterfly House of Quindío, is a 15-hectare tropical paradise located in Calarcá, Colombia, just about 15 minutes from Armenia.
Open to the public since 2000, this space is described as Colombia's most beautiful garden and serves as a scientific research center, ecological conservation site, and environmental education hub. The garden showcases over 600 types of plants including native palms, ferns, and heliconias, with the National Collection of Palms featuring almost all native Colombian palm species.
Its most famous attraction is one of Colombia's largest butterfly houses, housing approximately 5,000 butterflies from 1,500 different species at any given time, where visitors can often watch butterflies perch on their fingers. The site also includes an insect zoo, three birdwatching areas, a seven-storey viewpoint to see vegetation layers from above, and the Museum of Geology and Soils with the Line Tunnel Museum.
Visitors explore meticulously landscaped paths through vibrant flowers, towering trees, and serene water features, with guided tours available in English if reserved in advance, typically lasting about two hours during morning hours when butterflies are most active.
