Ram Fortress
Ram, Serbia, Serbia
The Ram Fortress is a 15th-century Ottoman artillery fort perched on a steep rock cliff overlooking the right bank of the Danube River in the village of Ram, Veliko Gradište municipality, eastern Serbia. Built in 1483 by Sultan Bayezid II to defend against Hungarian and Serbian forces, it features a pentagonal layout with towers, cannon embrasures, a dry moat, and well-preserved walls incorporating earlier Roman structures. First mentioned in 1128 near a Byzantine-Hungarian battle site with ancient Celtic and Roman roots, it lost strategic importance after 1521 and now offers stunning river views as a tourist site open daily (except Tuesdays) for a small fee.
