Rocca d’Olgisio is one of the oldest and most impressive fortresses in the Piacenza area, perched on a rocky ridge between the Tidone and Chiarone valleys.

Its origins are traditionally traced to the 6th century, although the first documented records date from the 11th century. Over the centuries, the fortress passed through the hands of several noble families, most notably the Dal Verme family, and played an important defensive role thanks to its strategic position and six rings of protective walls.

Known for its medieval architecture, panoramic views, and legends linked to Saints Liberata and Faustina, the castle survived numerous sieges and even served as a partisan headquarters during World War II. Today, after careful restoration, Rocca d’Olgisio is regarded as one of the most beautiful and historic fortresses in Emilia-Romagna, attracting visitors with its rich history, preserved interiors, and dramatic setting.
