Rocca di Borgonovo
Borgonovo Val Tidone, Italy, Italy
Rocca di Borgonovo is a historic fortress in the center of Borgonovo Val Tidone, originally built in the 13th century as part of the town’s defenses against invasions and regional conflicts.
Over the centuries, it was destroyed and rebuilt several times, gradually evolving from a military stronghold into a more elegant noble residence. Today, the fortress retains a rectangular layout with two surviving corner towers, a surrounding moat that was once filled with water, and traces of medieval and Renaissance architecture.
Major renovations in the 17th and 18th centuries added features such as a grand staircase and an arcaded courtyard. The Rocca now serves as the town hall and remains one of the most recognizable landmarks of Borgonovo Val Tidone, reflecting both the military and civic history of the region.
