Ruderi del Castello di Giaggiolo are the remains of a medieval fortress located in the hills near Civitella di Romagna in Emilia-Romagna.

The castle is documented as early as 1021 and once served as the center of the historic County of Giaggiolo, a strategically important territory on the border between Romagna and Tuscany. The fortress was associated with several noble families, including the Conti Severi and later the Malatesta family. It is particularly linked to Paolo Malatesta, the historical figure immortalized by Dante in the story of Paolo and Francesca.

Its hilltop position allowed it to oversee important routes through the northern Apennines. Today, only ruins remain, the most notable being a striking octagonal bastion and sections of the former defensive walls. Despite its ruined state, the site retains considerable historical charm and offers a glimpse into the region’s medieval past and noble heritage.
