Ružica Grad
Duzluk, Croatia, Croatia
Ružica Grad is a large medieval fortress located above the village of Duzluk, near Orahovica on the slopes of Papuk Mountain in eastern Croatia.
First mentioned in historical records in 1357, it is considered the largest surviving fortified castle complex in Slavonia and one of the largest medieval fortresses in Croatia. Built in a strategic position overlooking important routes through the region, the fortress served as a military, residential, and administrative center for various noble families.
It remained significant until the Ottoman period, after which it gradually lost its military role and fell into ruin. Today, Ružica Grad is a picturesque historical site surrounded by forests and hiking trails. The impressive ruins, combined with local legends about a fairy named Ružica, make it one of the most fascinating cultural landmarks in the Papuk area.
