Samobor Castle is a medieval fortress ruin perched on Tepec Hill above the town of Samobor in Croatia.

Built between 1260 and 1264 during conflicts between the supporters of Ottokar II of Bohemia and the Hungarian-Croatian kingdom, the castle occupied a strategic position overlooking important trade routes. Over the centuries, the fortress was expanded and transformed by various noble families, evolving from a military stronghold into a more comfortable residence with Renaissance and Baroque features.

By the end of the 18th century, it was abandoned and gradually fell into ruin. Today, Samobor Castle is one of the region’s most popular historical landmarks. Visitors can explore its surviving walls, towers, gateways, and traces of the old moat while enjoying panoramic views of Samobor and the surrounding countryside, making it a favorite destination for history lovers and hikers alike.
