Sarmato Castle
Sarmato, Italy, Italy
Sarmato Castle is a large medieval and Renaissance fortress located in the town of Sarmato in Emilia-Romagna.
Built around the 11th century on an important route connecting northern Italian territories, it served as a key defensive outpost during centuries of conflicts between rival regional powers. The castle passed through the hands of several noble families, most notably the Scotti and later the Zanardi Landi family, who still own it today.
Surrounded by fortified walls, towers, and remnants of a moat, the complex is one of the best-preserved castles in the Piacenza area and is admired for its rich history, impressive architecture, and elegant historic interiors.
