The Schoenstatt Shrine in Germiston refers to the Schoenstatt Shrine in Johannesburg (Bedfordview area, near Germiston) in South Africa, a small replica of the original Mother Shrine in Schoenstatt, Germany, built as a Marian place of pilgrimage and grace by the Schoenstatt Movement. It is officially known as the Schoenstatt Shrine Johannesburg, covers only a few square meters, and was founded on October 18, 1975, serving as one of nearly 200 “daughter shrines” worldwide where Mary is venerated as “Mother Thrice Admirable, Queen and Victress of Schoenstatt”. As part of the Schoenstatt Family’s South African network, the shrine is a center for prayer, covenant of love promises, and pilgrimage: visitors are welcomed to make a personal covenant with Mary, receive what the movement describes as three special graces (a home, a mission, and transformation), and experience the shrine as a quiet, spiritual “oasis of peace” in the urban environment, even though it operates alongside other major South African Schoenstatt sites such as the Mother Shrine of Africa in Cathcart and the Constantia shrine in Cape Town.
