Scipione Castle, also known as the Castello dei Marchesi Pallavicino, is one of the oldest castles in Emilia-Romagna, built in 1025 on a hill near Salsomaggiore Terme.

Constructed by the powerful Pallavicino family, it occupied a strategic position overlooking important salt-producing areas and trade routes, earning the nickname “Castle of Salt.” The fortress played a key defensive role during the Middle Ages and was repeatedly attacked before being strengthened and expanded. 

Over time, the castle evolved from a military stronghold into an elegant noble residence, with richly decorated rooms, frescoes, historic furnishings, and a panoramic loggia overlooking the surrounding hills. Still associated with the Pallavicino lineage and set within a picturesque medieval village, Scipione Castle is today celebrated for its thousand-year history, architectural charm, and exceptional views of the Parma countryside.
