Sumhuram Archaeological Park, located near Salalah in Oman’s Dhofar Region, preserves the ruins of the ancient fortified port city of Sumhuram, a major center of the frankincense trade more than 2,000 years ago.

The city was founded around the 3rd century BC and played an important role in connecting southern Arabia with civilizations across the ancient world. Situated beside the scenic lagoon of Khor Rori, the site contains the remains of city walls, temples, storage areas, homes, and trading facilities that reveal the region’s rich commercial and cultural history.

Archaeological excavations have uncovered numerous artifacts that help tell the story of this once-thriving port. Today, Sumhuram Archaeological Park is part of the UNESCO-listed Land of Frankincense World Heritage Site and attracts visitors interested in history, archaeology, and beautiful coastal scenery.
