Originally built as a private residence and later used as the home and administrative headquarters of the local governor, it played an important role in local governance and coastal protection. Today, the castle serves as a museum where visitors can explore furnished rooms, watchtowers, traditional weapons, household items, and cultural exhibits that illustrate everyday life in historical Dhofar.

Its architecture features thick walls, wooden ceilings, defensive towers, and a central courtyard typical of traditional Omani design. Set near the coast and surrounded by the historic town of Taqah, Taqah Castle is a popular cultural attraction that provides valuable insight into Oman’s heritage while offering views of the surrounding landscape and nearby sea.
