Tavigny
Belgium, Belgium
Tavigny is a village and former district in the Ardennes of Wallonia, today part of the municipality of Houffalize in the province of Luxembourg, Belgium.
It lies on the Ruisseau de Tavigny, a tributary of the Eastern Ourthe, not far from the border with Luxembourg, and is mentioned in written sources for the first time in 893 as Tevenihc, long belonging to the Abbey of Prüm.
The local landscape is strongly marked by nature: the area includes the protected natural reserve of Tavigny, with wet valleys, acidic marshes, peatlands and forests along the stream and its tributaries, and nearby remains of the old Bernistap canal project, which was intended to link the Meuse and the Moselle.
The village is also known for its small Église Saint‑Remi and an old watermill, and it is a quiet, forested destination valued for hiking and cycling, with a few hotels and restaurants serving visitors exploring the eastern Ardennes and the nearby Luxembourg border.
