Torre del Cassero is a medieval tower that stands at the highest point of Castiglion Fiorentino and is one of the town’s most recognizable landmarks.

Built in the 14th century during Perugian rule as part of the fortified “Casseretto,” it served as the final defensive stronghold protecting the town and surrounding Valdichiana. The tower rises about 35 meters above the historic center and is part of a larger defensive complex whose origins trace back to an ancient Etruscan settlement and later medieval castle.

Over the centuries, it functioned as a military structure and may also have been used as a prison. Today, Torre del Cassero is a popular historical attraction where visitors can climb to the top and enjoy sweeping views of Castiglion Fiorentino, the Val di Chio, and the Valdichiana countryside. It remains a powerful symbol of the town’s long and rich history.
