Al Mirani Fort, located in Old Muscat, is one of Oman’s most important historic fortresses, standing prominently above the city’s harbor.

Originally built before the Portuguese occupation and extensively rebuilt by the Portuguese in the late 16th century, the fort played a key role in defending Muscat and was among the first forts in Oman to use cannons. Perched on a rocky hillside overlooking the Gulf of Oman, the fort is known for its imposing stone walls, watchtowers, and strategic location.

It later became an important symbol of Omani resistance and sovereignty after the Portuguese were expelled from Muscat in the 17th century. Today, Al Mirani Fort is a major cultural and historical landmark, admired for its blend of Omani and Portuguese military architecture and its spectacular views of Old Muscat, the harbor, and surrounding coastline.
