Artanish is a small village in the Shoghakat Municipality of the Gegharkunik Province in Armenia, situated on the northeastern side of Lake Sevan at high altitude, with Mount Artanish—a 2,461‑meter peak—rising nearby on the Artanish Peninsula.

The area is known for its natural beauty and rich biodiversity, including the “Artanish–Shorzha” Prime Butterfly Area, which hosts over 111 butterfly species and is considered one of Armenia’s key birdwatching sites. To the west of the village lie the ruins of ancient cyclopean fortresses, and close by there is a historic church and cemetery, pointing to a long human presence in the region.

Archaeological work on the peninsula has uncovered numerous sites dating from the Early Bronze Age through the Late Iron Age, including settlements and cemeteries that show local characteristics of the Kura‑Araxes and Lchashen‑Metsamor cultures. Historically, the village was populated by Azerbaijanis before the late‑1980s, when Armenian refugees from Azerbaijan settled there during the Nagorno‑Karabakh conflict.
