Bahla Fort, located in Bahla in Oman’s Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, is one of the country’s most important historic landmarks and was the first site in Oman to be inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1987.

The fort is closely associated with the Banu Nebhan dynasty, which ruled the region between the 12th and 15th centuries and helped make Bahla a major center of power and trade. Built mainly from mud brick with stone foundations, the massive fortress features towers, courtyards, defensive walls, and interconnected buildings that showcase traditional Omani military architecture.

It stands above a fertile oasis and is surrounded by historic walls, traditional settlements, mosques, and irrigation systems that reflect the area's rich cultural heritage. Today, Bahla Fort is a major cultural attraction where visitors can explore centuries of Omani history while enjoying views of the surrounding oasis and mountains. Its impressive scale, historical significance, and UNESCO recognition make it one of the most remarkable heritage sites in Oman.
