Burg Alt-Teuffenbach
Teufenbach, Austria
Burg Alt-Teuffenbach is a hilltop castle in Teufenbach, Styria, Austria, dating back to around 1150. It was originally built by the noble family of Teuffenbach, who were influential ministeriales serving the Dukes of Carinthia and Styria. The castle was strategically positioned on a ridge to control access routes and nearby valleys and was involved in regional conflicts during medieval times.
It features a three-story tower house connected to a fortified gatehouse by defensive walls surrounding a narrow courtyard. The castle was restored in the late 19th century and remains one of the oldest inhabited castles in Styria, still owned by descendants of the original family. Its architecture reflects medieval military design with later residential modifications.
