Burg Altpernstein is a medieval hilltop castle located near Micheldorf in Upper Austria, first mentioned in documents from the 12th century. It was strategically built as part of a network of fortresses to protect important trade routes traversing the region.

The castle is perched on a rocky outcrop about 400 meters above the Kremstal valley with nearly vertical slopes on three sides and a moat on the fourth, accessible by a stone bridge. Its features include a four-story residential wing with a steep roof, a knights' hall, an armory, a chapel porch, and well-preserved dungeons. The castle also has unique iron-clad gate wings made from flattened armor plates.

After extensive renovations from 2018 to 2020, Burg Altpernstein now serves as a historical site where guided tours and events take place, and visitors can enjoy spectacular views from its terrace.
