It was built in the mid-14th century by the House of Stubenberg, later burned and damaged several times, and after a long period of decay it has been restored in recent decades. Today, it is no longer just a ruin but a revitalized historic site with some parts adapted for modern use, including holiday apartments. The castle is known for its strong fortress character, its 32-meter tower house, and its views over the surrounding Styrian landscape.
