Burgruine Altrechberg
Rechberg, Austria, Austria
Burgruine Altrechberg is the ruined remains of a medieval castle located near Rechberg in the municipality of Eisenkappel-Vellach in southern Carinthia, Austria.
Situated on a rocky hill above the valley, it originally served as a “talsperre” (valley barrier) to control passage and protect the area, and was first mentioned in documents in 1236 as property of the Carinthian dukes. By the late 17th century, the castle was already described as a ruin, and today only fragmented walls and earthworks survive on the site, which is protected as a cultural monument and offers a quiet, scenic spot for visitors interested in history and the surrounding landscape.
